Top 5 Drinking Songs

by admin on March 3, 2011

Let’s face it, drinking and singing go together like gin and tonic, rum and coke or seven and seven. There is not one human among us who has not gotten totally inebriated and belted out an anthem to being stupified to the point of incoherency on alcohol. Below you will find the top 5 drinking songs…please note: they’re either the blues, country or Irish. If you’re country, Irish AND blue, well, bless your heart.

  1. Show Me The Way To Go Home – Chet Atkins. Thank goodness the lyrics give directions, because usually by the time this song is sung, the participants are so drunk the slurred words make no sense. Except to another drunk. “Show me the way to go home. I’m tired and I wanna go to bed. I had ten drinks about an hour ago and they’ve gone right to my head.” Ten drinks? In one hour? Of course they went to your head!

  1. One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer – Johnny Lee Hooker. The remake by George Thorogood is probably better known, but Johnny Lee Hooker also throws in a few references to being “stoned”. The guy knows how to party! The cool thing about this song is it can double as a drinking game.

  1. I Drink Alone – George Thorogood. Speaking of George Thorogood, you know when he drinks alone, he prefers to be by himself. Of course you understand – sometimes, you just want to drink until you barf and piss yourself, and you don’t want any witnesses.

  1. Fuck You I’m Drunk – Flogging Molly. Many times, you’ll find yourself so inebriated the only thing you can do is state the obvious. This song celebrates your idiocy under the influence by informing everyone within shouting distance that you are indeed, drunk, and fuck anyone who doesn’t like it.

  1. Kiss Me I’m Shitfaced – Dropkick Murphys. In true Irish style, the Dropkick Murphys reiterate what every drunk female knows – you just can’t resist a drunk Irishman, even if he’s not buying the drinks. Maybe it’s the shit stain in his pants that makes the difference – according to the song, it is. If you were sober, you might think differently, but if you were sober, you wouldn’t be singing this song now, would you?
