People rave about Las Vegas all the time, its main attraction being casinos no doubt. But if you’re like me and loose all your money on the first night (the house always wins remember) what do you do for the remainder of your trip?
Well I discovered there are many free or inexpensive things to do in Vegas – here is my top 5:
Bellagio Fountains
Why not spend an evening by the Bellagio fountains. Sounds boring right? It’s not; the fountains are not your average water sprouts, but a light and sound show, coupled with a fountain display. Anyone is allowed to come watch and best of all its free! Listen to opera, classical and Broadway tunes and watch the show against a gorgeous Las Vegas sky line.
Do you appreciate fine art? When you’ve finished with the fountains, in the heart of the Bellagio lies a Gallery of Fine Art. Filled with pieces from other world famous museums and private collections, its one free inspiring must-do!
The Eiffel Tower
Not afraid of heights are you? Well then you need to check out the view from the Eiffel Tower replica. There’s even a restaurant in the tower, so you can enjoy your food with views to die for… (great if your date is ugly!)
Volcano Eruption
You’ve seen the water show, now experience the fire show. The Mirage hotel in Vegas houses a volcano that erupts every 15 minutes. Definitely worth a watch and one to tick off your list of free things you did in Nevada.
Casino Shows
If you hang around the casino long enough playing the machines, you’ll be given free drinks. If you loiter without playing you’ll be given free tickets to the shows taking place in the casino! One to go to would be the Treasure Island Battleship show. Running every 90 minutes starting at 4pm, it’s worth ‘hanging around’.
Learn to Play the professional way
One of the most interesting activities i did was take a poker lesson. It was free, so i could hardly refuse (It later occurred to me, of course they want to teach you, as they wasn’t you to play some more and being the beginner you are, also lose it all!) lasting around 40 minutes – it was bags of fun. Trying to understand the Chinese woman’s accent as she tried to teach a group of 5 the rules, whilst shuffling and dealing cards at lightning speed was something that made me want to become a card dealer! Getting free drinks whilst she taught and being able to play a mock game with chips given to you by the dealer for teaching purposes was awesome…. until of course you win on the table and you think you are god’s gift and try to play with real money! – you have been warned!
** if you do however strike it rich**
Become superman….
Okay so this one costs a little more than you may have at this point, (or ever had) but it’s definitely worth a punt if you’ve struck it rich. Feeling weightless in a converted Boeing 727 lets you enjoy the effects of a real space flight by recreating lunar gravity. Sounds amazing, and is definitely an experience you won’t forget!
